In this blog post, I’m sharing my favorite five with you! I know firsthand that as a parent, it can be challenging to get your kids to eat a well-balanced diet. Research has shown that children who are exposed to nutrition education at a young age are more likely to make healthier food choices – and make them on their own! Nutrition education boosts internal motivation to eat healthier, and that’s our end-goal, right? To raise happy, healthy, and independent eaters. Since kids these days are already on technology, let’s use technology in a positive way to expose them to fun educational videos that will teach them about nutrition and self-care skills.

What is MyPlate for Kids?

MyPlate for kids (and adults, too!) a visual representation of the five food groups that children can easily understand and remember. The five food groups are fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, and dairy. Healthy Fats and Fun Foods are also part of a well-balanced diet (although not technically food groups). Learning about MyPlate and the five food groups is a great way to help your kids learn about nutrition and healthy eating. By teaching kids about MyPlate and the five food groups, they can start to make their own informed choices when it comes to their diet by learning how to create balanced meals that keep them healthy and energized. This can help them develop lifelong healthy eating habits and a positive relationship with food.

MyPlate also offers a variety of wonderful, free resources for kids, including handouts, games, and a customizable MyPlate plan that you can print out and share with your child.
